We have a 2014 Unity and recently I have noticed significant surface rust developing in the coach battery compartment. I noticed the rear wall of the compartment has a vent and am wondering if water is getting in there and causing the rust as it is confined to the floor of the compartment. Anyone else have this problem?
hi
you need the vent if you have the Deep Cycle GC2 Flooded Lead Acid batteries as they do off gas.
one source could be if you overfill the batteries above the line that there would be acidic water that would contribute to the rust.
if the overflow tubes on the batteries are not connected and/or draining to the ground?
Hello,
I just swapped out the lead-acid paperweights for 2 Lion Energy UT1300 Lithium Ion Phosphate.
They were "on sale" at Costco during a road show.
It's a "plug-in-play" and all is well.
I do have an existing solar set-up and did not swap out the 1000watt inverter (yet).
Rust was developing in the battery compartment of our 2014 UMB prior to installation.
I removed the old batteries and cleaned-up the compartment.
Then sprayed the interior area with some gloss black (Rustoleum) paint.
Looks like new!
No issues since July '21.
Hope this is of some help.
Good Luck!
