Have any members replaced the OEM Dometic RMD8555 refrigerator with the newer 10.5XT themselves?
I know from research there are wiring connection considerations that are slightly different between the two. Are there any other caveats, needed modifications, and advice to be aware of? Additional installation parts from Dometic that need to be ordered?
We're specifically interested in this swap, and not looking at diving into batteries/inverter/etc. that are needed to go with a compressor model.
Have you checked, are they even available? Lot of shortages out there.
The Dometic could also be rebuilt.
I have not heard of anyone switching to another Dometic, after all the issues.
The Dometic RMD8555 cannot be repaired since there are no circuit boards available for that model any longer. The circuit board, in particular the eyebrow board, is a common failure in this fridge. It's also known to have a much lower max ambient temperature rating, so the 10.5XT is an improvement as well.

I have ordered the 10.5 XT at Dometic's recomendation. It was available at "Dyers", delivery was less than week. It is to be installed at Camping World.
It's not a component they deal with. It's not the cooling unit. It's the control boards. They are a weak link and Dometic no longer carries them. Even if we were to find a used set of boards, they are known to fail and we don't want to be back at square one again.

I've seen reference to an exhaust gas duct piece and also replacing the lower fridge vent with a different style that has a clip/holder for the condensate drain tube. Did Dometic happen to mention either of these, and if so, do you have p/n's?

Yes, delivery was free to any address. I had it delivered to camping world for my convenience. No tax on it either so far. Was impressed with the response and timely return. Good luck !
