Title: Wonder RTB- vehicle battery when storing
Post by: Callie on December 05, 2022, 09:13:49 am
Need assistance.  Stored my LTV for the winter and now my vehicle battery is dead.  What is the correct procedure in storing?  With my other RV's I simply disconnected my battery however since the Ford Transit battery is difficult to access , I left connected.  Thanking you in advance

Yep, the new Transit is a bit of a pain that way. There's still a significant power draw even when shut down especially if the cellular modem has been activated. The batteries are in a bad spot for removal. The best option is a maintainer if you have access to 120v power. Failing that, there maybe room to install a cut off mechanism on the negative terminal nearest the rear of the array under the seat, but I'm not sure how the chassis electronics would be affected. I was able to get some battery maintainer ring terminals on to the correct terminals and use a solar panel when I can't access shore power. On my 2020 chassis there are two batteries under the driver's seat, hooked in parallel, so be aware of that when installing a maintainer. It might be possible to hook a maintainer to the booster contacts under the hood. Option two is to just start the unit once a month and let it run for a half hour or so, which I also do, usually taking a short drive.

My simple answer to this question that is asked millions of times.

Either plug in 2v battery tender(electric or solar) or take out the battery. If neither is available then take the battery out and maintain at home. I added an extension to my Chasis battery and now I can plug in the battery tender in the first bay outside behind the driver seat. By doing that I also now have 12v access going out and I can plug my air compressor in on that side if needed. Very handy.
