Title: Dometic A/C and Soft Start RV.
Post by: Richard Pugh on February 09, 2023, 05:42:13 pm
Our new 2022 LTV MB should be delivered in April.  Our last RV, 2017 Midwest MD-2 Weekender had a Dometic Roof mounted A/C that worked fine until we were mooch docking and the huge amperage draw on A/C start-up would pop the fiends' 15- or 20-Amp CB (especially with GFI).  We installed a Soft Start RV to level out the amperage draw, and it worked fine.  QUESTION:  Does the Dometic A/C on LTV MB require a similar soft start modification for those times we plug into a 15-amp circuit?

Yes.  I have 2023 LTV and tried to run the AC off of household current. The AC just cycled on and off as the compressor started up.
Plugged in  the  portable    softstart and it ran fine

Yes you will want the soft start on your MB also.  The newer the RV the larger the AC is. We also have the Victron 3,000 Invertor and on the remote panel for it you can dial or set the Max amperage you want to draw from an external source so you don't over draw and pop the breaker. You can set it from 1 to 30 amps and if mooch docking you can set it to 14 amps and never blow it. A GFI on the outlet should have no bearing at all with the breaker blowing sooner than a non GFI.
